Collecting from DHL swipBox/locker

I was expecting a parcel by DHL and decided to redirect it to a DHL Parcel Locker and pick it up from there instead of having it delivered to my home. I had previously seen the lockers but never used them so was interested to see how it worked. There really aren’t that many DHL Lockers in Ireland so it appears it hasn’t caught on yet.

Sure enough on the day of delivery I received an text and an email confirming the package had been delivered to the DHL Locker at a local newsagent. The text contained a 8 digit code to use to unlock the locker. The DHL Locker is very similar to the Parcel Motel lockers but are much smaller. There is a small touch screen which was much more sensitive than the old style Parcel Motel touch screens and simple to use.

The process to retrieve your locker is:

  1. Enter in the 8 digit pin
  2. Enter in your full name
  3. Sign your name on the touch screen

I’d definitely use the service again, everything worked exactly as it should. I do prefer a locker based system instead of just leaving the parcels with the staff in the shop as Parcel Connect and Parcel Wizard do. The lockers considerably reduce the likelihood of something going wrong, for example giving the customer the wrong parcel or a parcel getting mislaid. The only thing I think that should be done is to have the lockers outside the shops where they are accessible 24/7. The shop is only open from 7am to 10pm which wouldn’t suit everyone. I really like Parcel Motel where I can collect the parcel whenever I want.

On a side note they need to sort out the branding, I’m not sure if they are called DHL Service Point, DHL Locker, swipBox etc. It’s only something small but some consistency would be good.

  1. Swipbox is the manufacture of the solution.

You can actually see that when you check their homepage.

On their homepage you can see the exact same picture you have above, just the poloshirt is different and the box is blue. Who photoshopped what is not clear but swipbox is the original owner of the term.

Challenge is that they are only for parcels send via DHL Express and not similar to Parcelmotel a catch all service.

    1. AD photoshopping the picture – it becomes clear when you look at the products behind the guy… Avonmore is really unique to Ireland…
