eir took over Setanta Sports and now offer the eir Sports pack to all eir broadband customers ‘free of charge’. They really push the idea it is completely free, but it was announced around the same time they increased their subscription fees. My broadband only package went up by €5 a month. I used to pay €15 a month for Setanta sports so I came out ahead. There are six channels in their pack – eir sport 1 (formally Setanta Ireland), eir sport 2 (formally Setanata Sports 1), BT Sport 1, BT Sport 2, BT Sport Europe and BT Sport ESPN.

Eir Sport Channels

If you do not have eir Broadband but do have Sky TV, you can subscribe to eir Sports Pack for €25 per month or €225 per year.  You are able to watch these channels on your computer, Android or Apple phone or your Sky Box. I’ve used the Android App and found it quite buggy. To watch it online, go to live.eirsport.ie and log in. This is the same username and password you use to access my.eir.ie  It currently does not work with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge browsers which is annoying but to be expected – I have the same issue with Sky Go.

You are also able to watch the eir Sport pack on your Sky Box. You will need to pair your sky box with your eir account by filling out the form here. You will need your Sky Viewing Card and your My eir username and password. If you don’t know your viewing card number follow these instructions to find it. If you have multiple Sky boxes you can add them all with no extra cost. I found that the channels went live within 10 minutes of filling in the form. Adding the eir pack to your Sky Box does not extend your contract.

An interesting thing is you do not need to have an active Sky subscription to get the eir Sport channels on the sky box you just need a Sky Ireland viewing card. So if you no longer use your Sky Box (or just use it for FTA channels) you can still get the eir Channels on it. I know a lot of people have a Free Sat or Combi box that they use to receive saorview channels and UK free to air channels via a dish. Normally this is the same dish used by Sky. In this case, you can buy a cheap second hand sky box with viewing card for around €20 and swap the cables to get eir sports on your TV. Just make sure it is an Irish viewing card and not from the UK. They are readily available on eBay.ie, adverts.ie and donedeal.ie. I purchased a Sky HD box + viewing card for €20 just last week for this purpose.

eir Sport Pack is a good pack and has a good selection of sports including Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, SSE Airtricity League, Bundesliga, Live Allianz Leagues GAA, Formula 1, The Masters, Champions Cup Rugby and the UFC. The one thing that lets it down big time, and I am aware maybe its just me, but I find their website awful. There is the eirsport.ie domain name which appears to be where you can actually subscribe and watch and there is also some FAQ on this domain name about eir Sport on the Sky Box. There is no FAQ linked that I can see about watching online. Instead this is on their eir.ie domain name at support.eir.ie/eirsport I often get a bit lost as to where I should be. However, once set up and running I no longer need to access these pages so it doesn’t bother me any more.

  1. Bt sport are miles behind sky sports they try to copy everything sky does with a bad version I pay €25amonth just to watch a few premiership games wouldn’t watch anything else on either bt or

    1. I find BT quite good for the rugby and football. To be honest, I normally skip the analysis on both Sky and BT. I find both spend more time drawing lines on screens instead of offering good insights.
