This is very much a delayed post as I have been travelling. In July, An Post launched a US Address with their AddressPal service. With this new service, you can get parcels delivered to an address in New Jersey, USA where it will be opened, customs forms completed and then sent on to Ireland.  It will then be delivered to your address by An Post. This service starts at €15.99 for up to 2KG. I have not used the service yet so I can’t give my personal experience of how it works.

Previously AddressPal didn’t offer a home delivery service, instead you picked up the parcel from your selected Post Office. Now, with the US AddressPal it is delivered direct to your home, you cannot elect to pick it up from the post office. This home delivery is also optionally available for UK AddressPal parcels now, starting at €5.99. You must activate the US AddressPal service on your AddressPal account and add a credit card that will be charged the AddressPal fee. If you do sign up for US AddressPal, your UK Parcels will also be delivered to your home at the higher price. If you wish to have continue to collect UK AddressPal parcels from your selected post office and also use US AddressPal service, you will need to sign up two different AddressPal accounts.

AddressPal is An Post’s answer to Parcel Motel. They offer a virtual address in Mainland UK which is a big plus compared to Parcel Motel, Parcel Connect and Parcel Wizard. However, apart from this, there isn’t much going for the service in my opinion. It’s slow, got a very low included insurance amount and cannot be tracked. However, there is no denying its popular – they have over 100,000 registered customers and are processing 20,000 parcels a week.

Edited to add – I found this link to this article from rabjoshu on boards.ie.

The An Post director of sales and marketing has said “Our 2017 plans include the launch of AddressPal from the United States and a home delivery option for all AddressPal shopping” I’m intrigued as to how the US virtual address will be implemented. There are options already – MyUS.com and Shipito are the ones I’ve used before. The issue is the price. A 1KG parcel measuring 10cmx10cmx10cm costs $25 to ship with Shipito on top of their fees. This means it’s only really worthwhile for valuable items but then taking into account customs, the savings could well be negated. Also, AddressPal would have to address the very low insurance they currently offer. I’m interested to see how customs would work in practise. Would it be completed ‘ahead of time’ like eBay Global Shipping or treated as a standard An Post parcel arriving into Ireland?

Either way, I’m looking forward to seeing their offering. A reasonably priced US mail forwarding address would be very useful.

The last parcel to arrive was DPD Parcel Wizard which actually arrived on Monday. I was away without my laptop which is why the update is only happening now – on Friday. I had selected the local store to collect the Parcel Wizard from using their new DPD Pickup service. When the parcel first was processed by PW I was advised it be ready for collection from Thursday 1st (the day after they received the parcel). However, this never happened and the status of the parcel swapped between In Transit and Held at Depot several times. I went on live chat for an update but never heard back – I will be doing a further post about the problems I’m having with DPD Parcel Wizard once the remaining two parcels are delivered. Both are overdue by a week.

At first I expected Parcel Connect and Parcel Wizard to be in a fight for first place and Parcel Motel and AddressPal to be in a fight for last. Parcel Connect was ready for collection in Dublin the next working day coming first and Parcel Motel was delivered Sunday coming second. Well today I got the text and email that the AddressPal parcel was ready for collection. A quick trip to my local post office and it’s collected.

AddressPal Arrived

I had expected Parcel Wizard to be ready next working day as well however, Parcel Wizard has come last. Well it hasn’t even arrived yet. I have three parcels with Parcel Wizard. The book that was part of this race seems to be out for delivery today and will be ready for collection this evening. I’ve been on live chat several times about the other two parcels and was promised call backs.  Overall, I’ve been very disappointed with Parcel Wizard. Its actually the only service I would consider not using again.

The last update on the Race was on Friday. I was expecting the Parcel Wizard parcels to be delivered on Friday – I was advised on Live Chat they would be. Originally they were due to be delivered on Thursday. Well it never showed up. Hopefully they’ll be ready for collection tomorrow but I’m not overly confident. Have to be honest I’m very disappointed with Parcel Wizard. People rave about them on Boards.ie but my experience has been very poor based on the three of my parcels they currently have.

I had been expected the Parcel Motel to be ready on Saturday evening, but it was actually this morning when it was stored in the Motel. While it was delayed compared to what I am usually used to, I think Parcel Motel is doing great work this year. They have also put out buses to pickup points allowing people to collect parcels from their bus if the motel is full. At the end of the day, if the motel is full theres not much they can do. Although I do think they could be more open about the delays.
