I’ve always been a bit surprised with just how expensive sending a one off parcel is with An Post at a post office. To post a 20KG parcel within Ireland costs €30.50, to the UK costs €61.50 and the rest of the world costs €82 for their Standard Parcel Service. I understand that this is for a one off parcel and if you are posting in bulk you will get significant discounts. However, what always struck me as strange is that An Post allows you to send a parcel under 10KG anywhere in Ireland for €13 (previously it was €11) by Express Post. What is annoying is that you need to ring them to order it and the parcel is collected from your address. I’d find it much more convenient to drop it off at a post office, but they said this wasn’t possible.

I sell quite a bit on Adverts and Done Deal and often have to post the items to the purchaser. Ideally, if the parcel fits in a Parcel Motel locker I prefer to send it directly to the purchasers Parcel Motel if they have an account as it is extremely cost efficient. However, for parcels larger than the Parcel Motel size limit you have to look at other options. It has often been suggested that I user Parcel Connect to send the parcels. Parcel Connect offers four different weight bands up to 2KG, 5KG, 15KG and 30KG. For comparison I’ve put the prices for An Post Standard Parcel for the same weight.
*Parcel Motel also offers a delivery service to Ireland. The service costs €6.50, €7.50 or €8.50 for a small, medium and large parcel weighing up to 10KG. I haven’t used the service yet so I cannot comment on the delivery time. However, the process to pay for and send the parcel is the same as sending to the UK*
Parcel Motel offer a competitively priced parcel delivery service to the UK. They charge based on the size of the parcel and accept parcels up to 10KG. You must print a label online and drop the parcel off at your local motel.
